Book 24
Book 24 (Ω)
Commentary on line 1
The ῡ of lu=to appears to be due solely to the license of the first arsis; see App. D, c 1; we have λύμην with ῠ in Φ 80. ἀλλύεσκεν (Od. 2.105, 109) has ῡ through metrical necessity. Heyne conj. θοὴν ἐπὶ νῆα ἕκαστος to save the f of fέκαστος (as Τ 277, 23.3). But if αὐτὰρ Ἀχιλλεύς (3) originally followed on 23.257, as has been reasonably suggested, the first three lines will belong to the ἆθλα, where a neglect of f is less surprising.
